4 Steps to Break the Rebound Headache Cycle - Part 4

Victory is ours!
Let me review the first 3 steps:

1. Cut back on the headache medication taken today.
2. Eliminate the most blatant headache triggers (described two blogs back).
3. Start a journal to see if other headache triggers can be detected.
4. Sometimes, even after these three steps are taken, headaches may be greatly reduced but still occur occasionally. There are some nutritional and herbal remedies that have produced very good results for relieving headaches. The most common nutritional and herbal supplements are:
-Magnesium -Butterbur -Feverfew -White Willow.

There are also supplements that combine some or all of these ingredients. It is my experience that the supplements that have a combination of ingredients are very powerful. One of these is called "MigraDefense". All four of the above mentioned vitamins and herbs are combined in MigraDefense and it has been very well received by many naturopathic physicians as well as patients.

Is This Forever?
Are you going to have to lay off these types of foods and drinks forever? Will you ever be able to have a beer again without receiving a headache? As long as you are caught in the "rebound headache cycle" you will never know. There are many things that could be acting as headache triggers so you will not be able to tell until you are at a point where you are not having headaches nearly every day.

If you can stay away from these products for good, that is probably best. If you feel you just need to know if you can eat a certain food or not, follow this strategy. After you have returned to a point where you are not having headaches often, gradually re-introduce food items that you have eliminated one at a time. Do not re-introduce more than one of these foods per month. By following a plan like this you should be able to tell whether this food leads to headaches or whether you can partake of it without receiving headaches.

I realize that knocking off coffee, sugar, alcohol or MSG sounds like a huge or possibly impossible task. It is not impossible, I have done it, others have done it, and so can you. And once these changes are made, the benefits are incredible.

To quote America's Personal Trainer, Tony Little, "You can do it".

Im lucky, I dont really suffer from headaches (unless you count the ones my children give me). But I could still do with some changes to my diet for general health benefits.

I came across a website talking about the benefits of increasing alkalinity in your diet. Are you familar any of that type of thing?
